MY CULTURE DOES NOT HATE WOMEN

My parents made me wash plates alongside my sisters, fetch water, wash clothes, sweep the house; but when it was time for the harder work, my sisters were exempted. Yet, someone says my culture hates women.

My parents made sure that the elder gets the privilege to pick first, even if that elder was female. Yet, someone says my culture hates women. My parents made sure that the younger respects and obeys the elder, even if the elder was a female and the younger a male. Yet, someone says my culture hates women. My sisters ran the kitchen -I dare not be found opening any pot without their permission, even permission from my kid sister. They literally decided what we the guys eat and the quantity we eat. We can only murmur if we are not pleased. Yet, someone says my culture hates women.
When visitors come, they may fail to give we the boys gifts; but they don't fail to give the girls gifts. Yet, someone says my culture hates women. When with women, and there is danger, I am not permitted to run without seeing the women are protected and safe. Yet, someone says my culture hates women. At night, the man is expected to sleep close to the entrance to ward of intruders, his voice is to be heard challenging any intruder. Yet, someone says my culture hates women.

Our women glitter, they are like polished jewels. Some are not even employed, but their men keep them glittering. The male children may be denied some comforts; but the females, nay... lest they stray. Yet, someone says my culture hates women. The Igbo woman is the most educated woman (if not human) specie in Africa; trained by fathers, brothers, uncles... Yet, someone says my culture hates women.

Even when married, she is consulted in her father's house before certain decisions are taken. Yet, someone says my culture hates women. If a man dares beats his wife, her brothers will come and take her away; and may even beat the husband in return. Yet, someone says my culture hates women.
This someone who says my culture hates women wants are women loose, licentious, rebellious, profane, before she accepts that our women are loved. But what they don't understand is that it is not the men who have kept the women from such outrageous lifestyles; it is the Igbo woman who keeps herself from such outrageous lifestyles... for she has great esteem of herself and towering pride in herself. The Igbo woman who behaves otherwise has been contaminated by a non-Igbo influence -check out all the cases.

One of the most beautiful things to behold in nature is an Igbo man with his Igbo wife. Thank God, I am Igbo; and with a very beautiful Igbo wife ??????!
