My parents made me wash plates alongside my sisters, fetch water, wash clothes, sweep the house; but when it was time for the harder work, my sisters were exempted. Yet, someone says my culture hates women.
My parents made sure that the elder gets the privilege to pick first, even if that elder was female. Yet, someone says my culture hates women. My parents made sure that the younger respects and obeys the elder, even if the elder was a female and the younger a male. Yet, someone says my culture hates women. My sisters ran the kitchen -I dare not be found opening any pot without their permission, even permission from my kid sister. They literally decided what we the guys eat and the quantity we eat. Our women glitter, they are like polished jewels. Some are not even employed, but their men keep them glittering. The male children may be denied some comforts; but the females, nay... lest they stray. Yet, someone says my culture hates women. The Igbo woman is the most educated woman (if not human) specie in Africa; trained by fathers, brothers, uncles... Yet, someone says my culture hates women.
Even when married, she is consulted in her father's house before certain decisions are taken. Yet, someone says my culture hates women. If a man dares beats his wife, her brothers will come and take her away; and may even beat the husband in return. Yet, someone says my culture hates women.
