Herdsmen planning to attack 5 Enugu communities – Ohanaeze

Leaders of apex Igbo group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Enugu State Chapter yesterday informed security agencies of a purported plan by suspected Fulani herdsmen to attack five communities in state.
Ohanaeze stated that the attack, which the leadership of Miyetti Allah is spearheading, is tied to the unsubstantiated theft of cows and the death of some herders in the state.
In a statement by the President of Ohanaeze in the state, Chief Alex Ogbonnia, the body urged the Federal Government to wade into the matter and avert a pending onslaught.
Ogbonnia, who posted the alarm on his Facebook wall titled: “Averting another bloodbath in Enugu”, said the threat of renewed herdsmen attacks in some communities in Enugu State is alive and real.
He said: “In the past couple of days, we have been treated to a cocktail of killings by Fulani herdsmen in several places in the Middle Belt region of Nigeria particularly the latest carnage in Plateau State. While we condemn this wanton destruction of life and property of innocent Nigerians by bands of suspected Fulani herdsmen, we are more worried that the Federal Government and indeed the entire security architecture in the country have done very little to stop this menace.
“It is indeed disturbing that many communities in Nigeria are now potential targets for these herdsmen. Because the Federal Government and the security network have been less than effective in containing this mayhem and these herdsmen appear emboldened to put so many communities at risk.
“Today, more than ever before, Fulani herdsmen have shown brazen disregard to people’s farmlands and crops as they move about with their herds of cattle.
“Enugu State, once a theatre of this carnage, is at present, come under the murderous radar of these herdsmen again. As at today, no fewer than five communities are living in fear of herdsmen attack because of one allegation or the other by the leadership of Miyetti Allah in Enugu.
“Their latest allegation is that some persons suspected to be Fulani herdsmen were killed or that some of their cows are missing.
“At present, Amagunze community in Nkanu-East Local Government Area, Okpanku in Aninri Local Government Area and Affa community in Udi Local Government Area all in Enugu State are at grave risk and danger of herdsmen attack following allegations by the leadership of Miyetti Allah that some of their cows are missing in these communities and that some Fulani were killed.
“Affa community, for instance has been mandated by these herdsmen to pay a ransom of N2 million as compensation for the alleged missing cows out of which N600,000 has been paid.
“It is on the basis of the foregoing that we call the attention of the Federal Government, Enugu State Government, the Nigerian Army (especially 82 Division of the Nigerian Army), Enugu State Police Command, the Department of State Services (DSS), and other security agencies in the country, especially in Enugu State, to the impending danger of massive attack by these Fulani herdsmen on some communities in Enugu State,” he said.
Ogbonnia further said that though none of these allegations by Miyetti Allah leadership in Enugu had been substantiated, “it is remarkable that this was the same flimsy reason given for the gruesome attack in Nimbo community in 2016.
“As was the case at that time, the government and security network were forewarned about the attack but nothing was done to avert it. It is on account of this that we are hereby putting both the Enugu State and Federal Governments and the entire security apparatus both in Enugu State and the country at large on high alert of the impending assault by these Fulani herdsmen on some communities in Enugu State.
“Ohanaeze Ndigbo Enugu wishes to warn that it would not tolerate any more shedding of blood in Enugu State or any part of Igboland on account of Fulani herdsmen.
“Our position on grazing ranches is very clear. In truth, since 2015 nothing has happened in Nigeria that seems to attenuate our position on the rejection of grazing ranches in Igboland and we cannot abdicate our land for any such purpose,” he stressed.

AS NIGERIA CRUMBLES, NO UNITY IN DIVERSITY

In recent times, I have sat down to observe the Horrors going on in Nigeria. I have engaged people in discussion to get their views and in a deep reflection, all i can see is complete disdain, failure and frustration because every sector has crumbled to irredeemable state. Today, i am not writing as a Biafran like I use to, but as an African, who imagines rapid development across the continent of Africa IF Biafra is restored tomorrow. I am just looking at the versed human and technological resources in Biafra Land and how the continent will flood BIAFRA for different businesses. Nigeria must accept the fact that the major root to our problems is DIVERSITY IN CULTURE AND BELIEFS. This is why we have never been United from inception. No Nation with different cultures and beliefs ever succeeded. Some questions you may ask... Can America and Pakistan exist as a Nation considering the fact that they are people with different value system? NIGERIA was created forcefully by a white m...

BISHOP OYEDEPO ADDRESSES ISSUE OF LIVING FAITH RURAL CHURCHES LOW INCOME

NONSENSE ! OUR ONLY CRITERIA IS HOW MANY SOULS WON AND NOT HOW MUCH INCOME. WHEN WE EMPLOYED 7000 PASTORS AT ONCE SOCIAL MEDIA WAS DEAD. WE HAVE MORE EMPLOYEES THAN MOST STATES IN NIGERIA AND WE HAVE NEVER OWED THEM OR TAKEN BANK OVERDRAFT ONCE. THE PASTORS WERE ASKED TO GO BECAUSE THEY WERE UNFRUITFUL. MANY OF THE CHURCHES BUILT CAN NEVER PAY FOR THE CHURCH BUILDING IN 30 YEARS. WE HAVE NO PATIENCE WITH FAILURE HERE. -Bishop David Oyedepo at CHoP *We have built more than 1,000 Churches in rural areas where in the next 30 years, they can never generate such fund, with each costing more than 14 Million Naira. *We are hunting after souls, not income. People are confused about our Ministry. I learnt some fellows said, “you know, they are not bringing income, that is why they asked them to go.” We asked you to go because you are unfruitful. Unfruitful! Blatant failure. Doing what there? We have no patience with failure here. When we employed 7,000 people at a time, Social Media was...

5 Final Thoughts on Abba Kyari and Hushpuppi

  1. As with everything Nigerian, the Abba Kyari/Hushpuppi fraud case has taken on a predictably ethnoreligious hue. I’ve read some people claim that Kyari is being targeted by America because he is a Muslim. Ha! Well, Hushpuppi is also a Muslim. His full name is Ramon Olorunwa Abbas. Most Muslims will recognize Abbas as a Muslim name but probably not Ramon. Ramon is the Yoruba Muslim domestication of Abdulrahman. Read my July 13, 2014 column titled “Top 10 Yoruba Names You Never Guessed Were Arabic Names” to understand how Abdulrahman became Ramon (which is also sometimes rendered as Ramonu or Raymond). The name is #7 on my list. Kyari’s replacement, announced earlier today, is a Tunji Disu, another Muslim. Disu is the Yoruba Muslim domestication of Idris. That name is #3 on my list. Most importantly, though, the man Hushpuppi defrauded of over $1 million— with Kyari’s help— is an Arab Muslim. So, the idea that Kyari is being hounded because he’s a Muslim is silly. 2. Some people ...
